Recently, I was asked by Coffee Bean to document their new partnership with Adopt the Arts Foundation.

Adopt the Arts was founded by Matt Sorum from Velvet Revolver/ Guns and Roses and Abby Berman to bring back art and music to the LA school system.

It’s mission is to bring together well-known artists, public figures, entrepreneurs, policy makers, and the general public to save the arts in America’s public schools. They believe that it is morally and ethically incumbent upon us to foster the creativity, dreams, hopes, and imaginations of our children. I could agree more. They are doing it one school at a time.

Abby and Matt have been joined by actress Jane Lynch, among others to help promote the cause and Coffee Bean has pledged $50,000 and sponsored an art contest with the kids to design 3 new coffee bag labels which proceeds go to the Adopt the Arts Foundation.

My assignment for the day was to shadow Matt, Abby and Jane on a visit to one of the funded schools, Rosewood Elementary, which happens to be in Matt and Jane’s neighborhood. They spent time with the kids in music class, Jane sang and played some guitar while Matt showed the kids how to really play drums.

The main event that day was to award the 3 winners to the art contest, for the new Coffee Bean labels.

All around it was an very exciting day.
